Sunday at 2:38pm in DeForest, WI
Step into God’s presence, embrace His promises, and discover His purpose for your life.
At 238 Church in DeForest, WI, our faith is anchored in the teachings of the Bible, with a special emphasis on Acts 2:38:
'Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Core Beliefs:
One God: We believe in one God, manifesting as Father, Son (Jesus Christ), and Holy Spirit.
1Ti 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Faith: We see in scripture that every single story of a person obeying the Gospel of Jesus Christ already believed there is a God. That initial faith in God is necessary to be saved.
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
There is only one book in the New Testament that tells the narrative of named individuals being saved and that is the Book of Acts. We see in the book of Acts that every single story of a person obeying the Gospel of Jesus Christ already believed there is a God. That faith was needed to obey the gospel.
The first time the gospel was preached to the Church age was in Acts chapter 2. We know the thief on the cross was the last Jew to die in old testament covenant, marking an end to that age.
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Act 2:40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
Act 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
While the narrator, Luke, who wrote the book of Acts minorly changed the sequence and wording of each of the salvation stories found in the Acts of the apostles for the sake of the original recipient of the letter, Theophilus , we still see the commonality of each story of conversion that aligns with the first time the Gospel was preached as well as with Jesus's Great Commission to preach the gospel. Acts 2:38, Matt 28:16-20, Mark 16:15-18
Faith: We see in scripture that every single story of a person obeying the Gospel of Jesus Christ already believed in God.
Repentance: Turning away from sin and dedicating oneself to God.
Baptism: Full immersion in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins.
Holy Spirit: Receiving the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues.
It is suggested that someone exploring these concepts of salvation read the entire book of Acts for themselves and see how God saved the Jews first, then the Samaritans, then the gentile nations, and then sent preachers to every corner of the planet with this same message. The original great commission is still the message of salvation and all other variations of message should be dismissed.
The Epistles: Much confusion is derived from the epistles because of misunderstanding the difference between hearing the gospel for salvation and the church being corrected by way of a letter. While we believe the epistles shed much light on salvation, we understand the gospel is not preached in the epistles, and not one single individual story of salvation is derived from the epistles because each epistle or letter was address to already saved churches, saints, and church leaders.
Because this previous statement may be the most controversial belief we hold we will give scriptural evidence for each epistle from Romans to Revelation.
Romans 1:7 "called to be saints"
Corinthians 1:2 “Unto the church of God which is at Corinth”
Galatians 1:2 “unto the churches of Galatia”
Ephesians 1:1 “to the saints which are at Ephesus"
Philippians 1:1 “to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi"
Colossians 1:2 "To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse"
Thessalonians 1:1 "unto the church of the Thessalonians"
Timothy 1:2 "Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith"
Titus 1:4 "To Titus, mine own son after the common faith"
Philemon 1:1 "unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellow labourer"
Hebrews 13:24 "Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints"
James 2:1 "My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons."
Peter 1:1 "to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia
1Pe 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father"
John 1:3 "That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ."
Jude 1:1 "to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ"
Revelation 1:4 "John to the seven churches which are in Asia"
Examples of teachings we find in the epistles:
Holy Living: Pursuing a life of holiness, reflecting God's character in our actions and relationships.
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
1Pe 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
1Pe 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Scriptural Authority: The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God and serves as our ultimate guide in faith and practice.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
We believe that living a Christ-like life requires a spirit-filled lifestyle.
This includes:
Spirit-led prayer and worship.
The use of spiritual gifts as described in the Book of Acts.
Preaching and teaching that is inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, we discover our true purpose and live in alignment with God’s will.
The gospel message, as found in the Book of Acts, is both transformative and foundational to salvation. Our faith centers on:
The resurrection of Jesus Christ, which triumphed over death, hell, and the grave
Repentance as the first step toward spiritual renewal
Baptism in Jesus’ name for the remission of sins
Receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, which empowers us to live victoriously
We believe this message is the only template for salvation and Christian living.
The church is the body of Christ, with Jesus as its head. We embrace the following principles:
Each member of the church has a unique purpose and role within the body.
Unity and community are essential for spiritual growth and fulfilling God’s mission.
The church is founded on the principles outlined in Acts 2, where believers came together in fellowship, prayer, and service
As a community, we are committed to loving one another, building each other up, and serving those in need.
Acts 2:38 is the foundation of our beliefs:
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
This verse encapsulates the transformative journey of faith that 238 Church seeks to inspire in every individual.
